International Workshop of Local Government Administrators

The city of Kingston and the Inter-City Intangible Cultural Cooperation Network (ICCN) will host the “2009 ICCN International Workshop of Local Government Administrators”. The theme is “Local Government at the forefront of preserving our Intangible Cultural Heritage”. The meeting will be held from September 15th to 17th 2009 at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston, Jamaica.

1 Objectives of the meetings
- To provide the participants with a forum to share information, best practices, and experiences on the designated themes through inter-governmental and inter-cultural dialogues,
- To explore the methods and means ofcapacity building of the communities by local governments,
- To introduce and discuss ICCN activities and roles for strengthening the network

Local government at the forefront of preserving our intangible cultural heritage

Sub themes
-1st Session: A city that hath a foundation expanding intangible cultural heritage in the 21st Century
-2nd Session: Intangible Cultural Heritage: Definition of a community and its capacity building by the local government

6. Participants: approximately 150

Mayors or governors of the cities or provinces
Local government administrators responsible for culture or cultural policies
Experts in the field of cultural heritage preservation

7. Financial arrangements
Mayors, governors, local government leaders, or their representatives,
experts will receive accommodations (hotels and meals) and local transportation.
Other expenses including airfares shall be borne by the participants.
